So What's different about us?
So What's different about us?

I guess it started when I was younger.
I grew up watching my dad work long hours at his job. His profession was a Piano tuner & technician. He was trained by his dad to do every aspects of piano & organ repair & tuning. As I grew up I realized this level of expertise was rare, especially as new piano technicians emerged with less & less training. Although there was fierce competition in his field, especially with modern technology making new advances, there were a few clients of his who seemed to especially appreciate the little things he did as well as his thorough knowledge of his subject. I loved watching him take a beat up old piano, strip it down to the sound board, then rebuild it from the ground up. This process took months, but in the end, his showroom was graced by another beautiful instrument which he lovingly christened with his favorite piece- How Great Thou Art.
A lot of those same things were instilled in me, probably by being in this environment for so long. I loved seeing the transformation of the piano from old & broken down to new & restored and the hard work it took to get it there. The direct analogy for me in my field of dental technology is hard to miss, as I strive to excel in the work I do in restoring peoples smiles from the ground up.
My education started with my background in Biology at the University of Windsor (Windsor, Ontario Canada), to the 3 years training at college in dental technology(George Brown College - Toronto, Ontario Canada) learning all aspects of the trade( full & partial dentures, partials, orthodontics & crown & bridge). After school I worked in a small quality crown & bridge lab, then ‘in house’ as main ceramist for a prosthodontist. During this time I received my accreditation as an RDT, where this week long test proved again all aspects of dental technology. As I grew as a technician, I realized I could only go so far by myself. I attended courses from other accomplished technicians, leading me eventually to Newport Beach, CA and the facility of Dr. Robert Winter and Don Cornell with whom I worked for three & a half years.
Today I still love the transformations possible in dentistry, and I strive to expand my knowledge of this rapidly growing field by attending study clubs, courses & meetings with like minded peers. So what makes us different? The continuation of the heritage of knowledge & excellence instilled in me and the passion to try to recreate the beauty of natural teeth in dental ceramics.
